Online Safety
Safer Internet Day
It's wonderful to celebrate Safer Internet Day and help children develop the knowledge, confidence and skills they need to navigate the online world safely. Throughout the day, pupils take part in engaging activities that encourage them to think carefully about how they use technology, communicate with others and protect themselves online.
Children explore important topics such as online kindness, privacy, respectful communication, cyberbullying and knowing what to do if something online makes them feel uncomfortable or worried. Through class discussions, assemblies and creative projects, pupils learn that being a good digital citizen means making responsible choices and showing the same respect online as they do in school.
The children enjoy expressing their learning through a variety of creative activities, including designing posters, writing poems, creating presentations and producing their own 'Top Tips' for staying safe online. These activities help reinforce key messages while giving pupils the opportunity to share their knowledge with others.
At our school, we believe that online safety is not just about protecting children from risk, but also about promoting positive digital wellbeing. We encourage pupils to balance screen time with other activities, build healthy online habits and understand the importance of seeking support from trusted adults whenever they need help.
By working together with families and the wider community, we aim to ensure that every child can enjoy the many benefits of technology safely, confidently and responsibly. Through regular internet safety education, we help our pupils become respectful, resilient and responsible digital citizens who are prepared for the ever-changing online world.
Internet Safety
Keeping children safe online is a shared responsibility between school and home. Technology plays an important role in children's learning, communication and entertainment, and while it offers many opportunities, it is important that children know how to use it safely, responsibly and respectfully.
At school, we regularly teach pupils about online safety through our computing curriculum, assemblies, workshops and awareness events such as Safer Internet Day. We encourage children to think critically about their online activity, protect their personal information, communicate kindly with others and know where to go for help if they encounter anything that worries them.
To support families, we have provided a range of guides and resources below. These offer practical advice on topics such as:
- Staying safe on social media
- Setting parental controls
- Online gaming and age ratings
- Managing screen time and digital wellbeing
- Cyberbullying and respectful online behaviour
- Privacy settings and protecting personal information
- Popular apps, games and websites used by children
- Supporting children to become responsible digital citizens
We encourage all parents and carers to take time to explore these resources and discuss online safety regularly at home. Open conversations about children's online experiences can help them feel confident to ask questions, share concerns and make safe choices when using technology.
If you have any concerns about your child's online safety or would like further advice, please do not hesitate to contact the school. Together, we can help ensure that every child enjoys the benefits of the digital world safely, confidently and responsibly.
