At Our Lady of Compassion, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to make a positive difference to our school community. Our Pupil Leadership Team gives children a genuine voice in shaping school life, encouraging them to develop confidence, responsibility, and leadership skills while living out our school values.

The Pupil Leadership Team is made up of representatives from every class from Reception to Year 6. At the beginning of each academic year, pupils who wish to become leaders prepare and deliver a speech to their classmates, explaining why they would be a strong representative and how they would contribute to improving our school. Following these presentations, every child is given the opportunity to vote, making the election process democratic, inclusive, and fair.

What Do Pupil Leaders Do?

Pupil Leaders play an important role in ensuring that the views of all children are heard and valued. They:

• Represent their classmates by gathering ideas, suggestions, and concerns and sharing them during regular leadership meetings.
• Work alongside school staff to discuss ways to improve school life and contribute to decision-making processes.
• Lead school improvement initiatives that have a positive impact on pupils, the school environment, and the wider community.
• Communicate outcomes from meetings back to their classes, ensuring everyone understands how their views have helped shape decisions.
• Promote our school values by modelling respect, responsibility, kindness, and integrity in their daily actions.
• Support school events and projects by helping to organise activities, celebrate achievements, and encourage participation across the school.

Developing Tomorrow's Leaders

Being part of the Pupil Leadership Team is an opportunity for children to develop important life skills. Through their role, pupils learn how to communicate effectively, work collaboratively, listen to different viewpoints, and make decisions that benefit others. They gain confidence in speaking publicly, taking responsibility, and leading positive change.

Most importantly, our Pupil Leaders help to create a school where every child feels listened to, respected, and valued. By working together with staff and their peers, they ensure that pupil voice remains at the heart of our school community and that everyone has the opportunity to contribute to making Our Lady of Compassion the very best it can be.
