The Governing Body plays a vital role in the life of Our Lady of Compassion. Made up of dedicated volunteers, many of whom are parents, former parents and members of our parish community, governors work in partnership with school leaders to ensure that every child receives the very best education within a nurturing Catholic environment.

Guided by our mission, "To live as Jesus taught us," governors are committed to supporting the school in helping every child grow spiritually, academically, socially and emotionally, so that they can reach their full potential.

What is the Role of the Governing Body?

Governors provide strategic leadership and accountability for the school. Working closely with the Head Teacher and senior leaders, they help to ensure that Our Lady of Compassion continues to thrive and serve the needs of its community.

Their key responsibilities include:

• Shaping the school's vision, values and strategic direction.
• Supporting and challenging school leaders to ensure high standards for all pupils.
• Monitoring the quality of education and outcomes for children.
• Ensuring the school fulfils its statutory responsibilities and meets the expectations of the Archdiocese.
• Overseeing the effective use of resources and finances.
• Reviewing and approving policies that support the safety, wellbeing and achievement of pupils.
• Monitoring progress towards school improvement priorities.
• Ensuring that the Catholic ethos and mission of the school remain at the heart of all decision-making.

How Do Governors Work?

The full Governing Body meets regularly throughout the year to discuss school developments, review progress and determine strategic priorities for the future.

To support this work, governors take on specific areas of responsibility and develop expertise in key aspects of school life, including:
