RE Curriculum

At Our Lady of Compassion Catholic Primary School, we follow Discerning Disciples, the Religious Education programme developed for Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of Birmingham. Rooted in the Church's new Religious Education Directory, this curriculum places Christ at the centre of learning and supports children in growing in faith, knowledge and understanding.

Through engaging and meaningful learning experiences, pupils are encouraged to explore Scripture, Catholic beliefs, prayer, liturgy and the lived experience of faith. The programme helps children make connections between their learning and the world around them, enabling them to reflect on life's big questions in the light of the Gospel.
The curriculum is carefully sequenced to develop children's knowledge and understanding as they progress through the school. Key areas of learning include:
- Sacred Scripture and God's story of salvation
- Catholic beliefs and teachings
- Prayer, worship and liturgy
- The Sacraments and the life of the Church
- Catholic Social Teaching and mission
- Living as disciples of Jesus in today's world
Through Discerning Disciples, we aim to develop confident, knowledgeable and reflective learners who can articulate their faith, think critically, and respond to God's call in their lives.
In addition to Religious Education lessons, our children are provided with regular opportunities for prayer, reflection, worship and service, ensuring that faith is not only learned but lived through our mission:
"To Live as Jesus Taught Us."
