PE, Physical Activity and School Sport

At Our Lady of Compassion Catholic Primary School, we believe that physical education, physical activity and sport are essential to every child's health, wellbeing and personal development. Through a high-quality PE curriculum and a wide range of sporting opportunities, we aim to inspire all pupils to lead active, healthy lives while developing confidence, resilience, teamwork, leadership and a lifelong enjoyment of sport.

Changes to PE and Sport Funding from September 2026

The Government is introducing a new approach to supporting PE and school sport across England. During the 2026-2027 academic year, the existing Primary PE and Sport Premium will begin to transition towards a new PE and School Sport Partnerships Network, which is expected to be fully operational from Spring 2027. The new model aims to strengthen collaboration between schools, sports organisations, local clubs and community partners to ensure that all children have access to high-quality physical activity and sporting opportunities.

As part of this transition, schools will continue to receive funding during 2026-2027 to support PE, physical activity and school sport, while also benefiting from increased opportunities to access expertise, training, resources and targeted support through local and national partnerships.

    Our Vision

Our vision is that every child at Our Lady of Compassion:

    • Enjoys being physically active every day.
    • Develops the skills, knowledge and confidence to participate in a wide range of sports and physical activities.
    • Understands the importance of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
    • Has opportunities to represent the school in competitive and non-competitive events.
    • Experiences success, inclusion and personal achievement through sport.
    • Develops character, resilience, leadership and teamwork through physical activity.

    Our Aim

To create sustainable improvements in PE, physical activity and school sport that enable all pupils to flourish physically, socially and emotionally, both now and in the future.

    How We Use Our Funding

We use funding and partnership opportunities to:

    • Increase pupils' participation in regular physical activity and promote healthy lifestyles.
    • Raise the profile of PE, sport and physical activity across the school.
    • Enhance the confidence, knowledge and skills of teachers through high-quality professional development.
    • Broaden the range of sports and activities available to pupils.
    • Increase opportunities for participation in competitive sport and festivals.
    • Ensure that all pupils, including disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND, can access and enjoy physical activity.
    • Develop strong links with local clubs, organisations and community partners to create lasting opportunities for participation beyond the school day.

    Looking Ahead

The new PE and School Sport Partnerships Network places a strong emphasis on collaboration, inclusion and targeted support for schools and pupils who need it most. At Our Lady of Compassion, we welcome this opportunity to work alongside schools, sporting organisations and community partners to further enhance the quality of PE and sport for all children. The network will provide universal support for all schools, alongside additional targeted and school-requested support where appropriate.

We remain committed to ensuring that every child develops the skills, confidence and enthusiasm to enjoy an active lifestyle and achieve their full potential through PE, physical activity and sport.
