  • Well-Being and Mental Health

At Our Lady of Compassion Catholic Primary School, we are committed to promoting positive mental health and emotional wellbeing for all members of our school community. We strive to create a nurturing, supportive and inclusive environment where every child feels safe, valued and listened to.

We recognise that children and families may face a range of challenges and experiences throughout their lives. At times, additional emotional support may be needed, and we believe it is important that everyone knows where to seek help and guidance when required. By working together, we can help children develop resilience, confidence and the skills needed to manage life's ups and downs.

Positive mental health is at the heart of everything we do. Through our curriculum, pastoral support and strong relationships, we encourage children to express their thoughts and feelings, develop healthy coping strategies and understand the importance of looking after their emotional wellbeing.

On this page, you will find a range of resources, guidance and links to support children's mental health and wellbeing. We hope that families find these materials helpful and informative.

If you have any concerns about your child's wellbeing or would like additional support, please contact the school office at office@olc.solihull.sch.uk. A member of our team will be happy to discuss any concerns and work with you to ensure your child receives the support they need.

    Social Media and Internet Safety

At Our Lady of Compassion Catholic Primary School, keeping children safe online is a key part of our commitment to safeguarding. Technology provides many exciting opportunities for learning, creativity and communication, but it is important that children learn how to use the internet safely, responsibly and respectfully.

Through our curriculum, assemblies and wider safeguarding programme, we teach pupils how to make safe choices online, protect their personal information, recognise potential risks and know what to do if something makes them feel uncomfortable or worried.

    Working Together

Online safety is most effective when schools and families work together. We encourage parents and carers to take an active interest in their child's online activity and to have regular conversations about how they use the internet, social media, games and messaging apps.

As part of this partnership, we recommend that parents:

    • Talk regularly with their child about staying safe online.
    • Set appropriate parental controls and privacy settings.
    • Monitor the apps, games and websites their child uses.
    • Be aware of age restrictions on social media platforms.
    • Encourage children to tell a trusted adult if they see or experience anything that concerns them.
    • Model safe and positive online behaviour.

    Social Media

Many social media platforms have minimum age requirements of 13 years old or above. We strongly encourage parents and carers to check age ratings and ensure that children only access platforms that are appropriate for their age and maturity.

Children should be reminded never to:

    • Share personal information online.
    • Communicate with people they do not know.
    • Share photographs or videos without permission.
    • Post comments that may upset, hurt or offend others.
    • Arrange to meet anyone they have only met online.

    Helpful Online Safety Resources
