Our Lady of Compassion School Uniform

At Our Lady of Compassion Catholic Primary School, we believe that our school uniform plays an important role in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment. The Governing Body fully supports the implementation of our uniform policy, which reflects the values and high standards of our school community.

We understand that families may occasionally experience difficulties in providing school uniform. If this is the case, please contact the school in confidence. We are committed to supporting families wherever possible, including access to our second-hand uniform supply.

Why We Have a School Uniform

    Our school uniform:

    • Promotes a sense of pride in our school.
    • Helps foster a strong sense of community and belonging.
    • Gives children a shared identity as members of Our Lady of Compassion.
    • Supports our commitment to equality and inclusion.
    • Reduces distractions caused by fashion trends and branded clothing.
    • Is practical, smart and designed with health and safety in mind.

We ask parents and carers to ensure that children come to school wearing the correct uniform and PE kit, that clothing is clean and in good condition, and that all items are clearly labelled with the child's name.

If there are any circumstances that make this difficult, we encourage parents to speak confidentially with a member of the senior leadership team. We will always do our best to offer support and work together to find a solution.

    PE Kit

Children should come to school dressed in their PE kit on their designated PE days, including swimming days.

This approach offers a number of benefits:

    • It promotes the importance of physical education and healthy, active lifestyles.
    • It maximises learning time by reducing the need for changing during lessons.
    • It reduces the likelihood of clothing being misplaced.
    • It helps school uniforms and PE kits last longer by sharing daily wear.
    • It allows PE clothing to be washed more regularly.
    • It removes the need for a separate PE bag.

Our Lady of Compassion PE Kit

    • House-coloured sports t-shirt with school logo:
      • St Anne's – Red
      • St Gabriel's – Yellow
      • St Raphael's – Blue
      • St Joseph's – Green
    • Navy shorts or skort
    • Navy sweatshirt for outdoor PE
    • Navy jogging bottoms for outdoor PE
    • Suitable trainers for outdoor PE activities

During the winter months, children should wear their navy sweatshirt and navy joggers on PE days.

If a child forgets their PE kit, parents will be contacted before the PE lesson, which will usually take place in the afternoon. On swimming days, children should still wear their PE kit for the remainder of the school day to maintain the routine and identity associated with PE.

    Jewellery

For health and safety reasons, earrings are not permitted and should be removed before coming to school on PE and swimming days. We strongly encourage families to consider this when arranging ear piercings, ensuring that children are able to participate safely in all physical activities.
