Live Simply Champions
The Live Simply initiative is a powerful way for Catholic communities to respond to Pope Francis’ call to care for our common home and to stand in solidarity with our sisters and brothers around the world. It reminds us of our shared responsibility to “protect this world which God has entrusted to us.”
“What kind of world do we want to leave to those who come after us, to children who are now growing up?”
Pope Francis
At OLC, our Live Simply Champions lead by example and inspire others to live:
- Simply – valuing what we have, reducing waste, and making thoughtful choices.
- Sustainably with creation – caring for the environment through practical actions.
- In solidarity with people living in poverty – showing compassion and taking steps to support those in need.
What do our Live Simply Champions do?
- Promote eco-friendly habits: They encourage recycling, reducing plastic use, and saving energy across the school.
- Lead environmental projects: From planting trees and creating wildlife areas to organising litter picks, they help protect God’s creation.
- Raise awareness: They create posters, and share messages about living simply and sustainably.
- Support charitable initiatives: Champions help organise fundraising events and collections for communities in need, both locally and globally.
- Model responsible choices: They inspire their peers by making small changes that have a big impact, such as using reusable bottles and reducing food waste.
- Work with staff and parish: They collaborate on whole-school projects linked to Laudato Si’ and the Catholic Social Teaching principles.
Through their leadership, our Live Simply Champions remind us that caring for creation and supporting others is not just a project—it is a way of life rooted in faith and love.
